Go to school and get stabbed in the lavatory [10 Mar 2006|01:46pm]

My Bloody Valentine sung pretty pop songs about sex underneath walls of fx-pedal haze and shrieking feedback. This is one of their darker sounding songs and the opening track off their album Isn't Anything. For a lot of people that album is synonomous with being crushed out on someone and these tracks are still showing up on crush mixtapes. Having said that I doubt this one got placed on shy teenagers cassettes often because it sounds really psychotic and evokes blood being spilled by the scalpel thing feedback onto fresh snow.

My Bloody Valentine - Soft As Snow (but warm inside)

There comes a time in every child’s life where it seems the air presses down on their lungs with a extra weight, making them act 'not right'. This, for me, occurred in year 9 when I decided that it was destiny that I burn down my school. Anyway, this track from our myspace fwends Die! Die! Die! (<3 for life) captures perfectly the betrayals, violence and heartbreaks of that period in everyone’s life. These guys were produced by Steve Albini and their music has echoes of his former band big black, as well as references to joy division, minor threat and john lennon.

Sunn O))) is a man living in the middle of nowhere contracting colon cancer and the cancer slowly engulfing his body while he lays paralysed on his wheat bed, faeces running down his loincloth and his stomach bloating. A duo of guys who got teased at school making hideous black metal drones that are said to cause people to have involuntary bowel movements. Take that jocks + jerks. I wanted to post a track called My Wall from their White 1 album but couldn’t find a link, so I put this track from Black 1 up...not too sure how it sounds, but I am sure you will enjoy it (especially if you are into drinking cough syrup..)
